Guy Martin has been taken to hospital suffering from chest injuries after crashing on lap three of the Senior TT race at Ballagarey on Friday.
An official announcement said Martin had been conscious throughout the incident and was being taken to Noble's hospital by helicopter with chest injuries.
Martin was contending for the lead with John McGuinness, Ian Hutchinson and Conor Cummins when he crashed.
The race was stopped to allow a fire engine onto the course as Martin's bike was on fire in a hedge.
Ian Hutchinson won the restarted race to make history to make it a record-breaking five wins out of five with victory in the restarted Senior TT this afternoon
A later statement from Noble's Hospital has said Martin has some minor fractures in his upper spine and bruising to both lungs but is otherwise OK.
He is expected to be in hospital for a few days and thanked his fans from his hospital bed for all their support and reassured them that the incident had nothing to do with a lack of commitment from him!
